Cat Away; Mice Will Play

For years now, I have been going away to my Mom's for a few days at a time, leaving Mr. G alone at the house. My neighbors always tell me he uses this time to do "Projects". He always has a plan and shares with them. One time it was a Perennial Garden, another was a GI Joe Camp Site, another was a quilt. You get the picture...I NEVER know what I am going to come home to find. I do know that whatever it is, it is always delicious!!! *nodding*

The picture shown above is what he did this time while I was gone. It is FANTASTIC!! raw material cost $62.00. The girls just LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! I do, too!

Thanks, Hun, for yet another amazing "Project" the entire family can enjoy! You The Best!

Hair

Hair...
We all have it. Some of us..... have too much of it. Excess hair can be put to good uses these days. My youngest donated his excess hair to the "Locks For Love" Program last year; a program that makes wigs for those who are undergoing chemotherapy. Well done, son!

And there is another use for our hair and our fellow lovable animals hair. Human and animal hair collect oil. We all know this if we don't wash our hair for a couple of days, it tends to get "oily" or "greasy". Our hair collects oil from the air and our own body secretions.
Right now, there is a huge demand for hair. People are creating "Booms" out of hair and nylons, pantyhose or stockings (whichever term you may use) to soak up oil in the ocean from the devastating oil spill if the Gulf.
Check out www.matteroftrust.org for further details. RIGHT now they are taking donations of hair and nylons to create "booms" that will help soak up the present oil spill.
I found 100 salons and pet groomers in NJ that are sending their "waste products" to this cause! FANTASTIC!!! (permed hair & dyed hair is acceptable)

I know of two friends in town that cut hair. I am going to buy prepaid postal boxes from USPS and hand them to my 2 friends to see if they will fill them up and ship them off. Shipping address will already be on box when I hand it to them. One will probably have the box filled in less than one day of "work".
Maybe some of you reading this, wouldn't mind reaching out to your Groomers and Salons to see if they would like to participate? (OK, as I am proof reading this I see I spelled Salons with 2 o's - I wouldn't suggest getting your hair cut or your pet groomed at a Saloon - we might want to let them keep doing what they do best --- serving pints =) ) They have to register on the site to become involved. It's easy and takes but a minute or 2.

Come on, now, give it a shot.

What happens with the "used booms"? One idea involves mushrooms. Very cool....it is further explained on the web site. I am not going into the explanation here, but it is a very interesting and easy to follow read.

One Small Change -- May '10

I happened upon this site www.1smallchangeblog.blogspot.com a few days after I posted my Earth Year Resolutions. This was a challenge for people to take from January 2010 to Earth Day - April 2010. People liked it so much they have decided to continue for the entire year. I like it!! I am going with the Baby Step Attitude. Things I hope I can accomplish with my present lifestyle, but are not my normal habits. This group is asking us to make One Small Change each month. Most who have blogged about their Small Change for that month have continued to keep that One Small Change Change in their everyday life. A good thing, for sure!
For the month of May, my One Small Change, will be not to use disposable goods while I am at work. Plastic spoons, knives, forks, coffee stirrers, coffee cups, paper plates, etc., will all be NO-NO's.
This pledge is addition to my Earth Year Resolutions.
Once again, the whole idea of making my pledge public will hopefully keep me accountable to my pledge. So, once again, when you see me, don't be shy! Ask me how I am doing!!!
Have to go now to get my "Work Place Mess Kit" in order.
